Operators in emerging markets will reduce OPEX through network sharing, from basic site sharing to RAN (radio access node) sharing, and consolidation through mergers, joint ventures and acquisitions. Network outsourcing opportunities will grow in these markets, occurring before and/or after consolidation has occurred.
An interesting dynamic will occur with equipment vendors as they jockey for position to be “the one” chosen for these outsourcing opportunities. These vendors will be under significant pressure to secure those opportunities because – if they do not – network sharing and consolidation may mean they “lose out” on the market all together.
The growing wave and uncontrolled timing of outsource opportunities will mean equipment vendors must have a presence and definitive “plan of attack” in those markets that fit with their overall business strategy for long-term profitability.
